SINGULARITY SKY: We've had some very interesting insights into our first Book Club book, _Singularity Sky_, over the last week. If you're familiar with the book, or just curious with the state of the Space Opera genre, stop by as we continue our discussion.

JANUARY'S BOOK (PEACE): We've now selected our Book Club book for January. Our winner is _Peace_, by Gene Wolfe, which is one of his early books that's held in particular esteem. In the United States there's an Orb edition in print, while in the UK it was recently part of the Millennium Fantasy Masterworks series. We'll start discussing it in three weeks, on January 1, though I suspect the discussion will really get going the next day.

THE HOLIDAY LULL: We seem to have settled into a holiday lull for media news, as everyone hunkers down for the Christmas season. It looks like the writer's strike is going to be here for a while based on the industry's latest non-offer, which has resulted in a breakdown of discussions. Meanwhile there's very little news on the television and movie front, because of the self-same strike.
JERICHO: One of the few items of note is that Jericho Season 2 has finally been scheduled. It'll be showing Tuesdays at 10pm, starting on February 12th. Some folks have called this a "death slot", since it's up against Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, but on the other hand, it's showing in sweeps when an increasing number of shows will be out of episodes. (L&O:SVU has four left as of today.) So, we'll see ...

THREADS OF NOTE / IN WHICH I READ: All three of our "In Which I Read" threads got posts in the last week. These are threads in which a reader decides to read a large, coherent set of books and post about them (or, alternatively, watches a large set of TV shows). They offer great incentive to keep reading (or watching) something you want to, and also provide interesting insights on the topics in question. The three threads currently running are Bob Cram's on Stephen King (updated last week to include _Cujo_), mine on Michael Moorcock (updated last week to include _The Weird of the White Wolf_), and mine on Star Trek: New Frontier (updated last week to include _Once Burned_).
