THE WRITER'S STRIKE: Commentators like TV writer Tim Goodman are increasingly saying that there's a chance that the Writer's Strike may soon be coming to an end. This is based largely on the fact that the Directors' DGA is now meeting with the studios and suggesting that a deal is on the way; if it's good the writers can follow suit and everyone saves face.

Meanwhile, the WGA continues its divide-and-conquer strategy, and has signed deals with two other small production houses: the Weinstein Company and Media Rights Capital. The former notably covers Dimension Films, a maker of genre films--though in looking through their list of projects it mainly seems like they make B-grade genre films like Children of the Corn and Halloween.

LOST: Meanwhile, the next big premiere of the year is going to be Lost, on January 31. We've got a thread to start reviewing the mysteries of last season:

CANCELED SHOWS: Though the networks have been pretty cagey about canceling shows this year due to the writer's strike, it looks like three genre shows have kicked the bucket so far: Journeyman, the 4400, and The Dead Zone. And there's already a mail random-junk-in campaign for the 4400.
